THUNDER BAY – It may be a challenging time to open a hair salon, but that hasn’t dampened Domenic Commisso’s enthusiasm.

Commisso is the owner of The Hair Shopp, which the Intercity Shopping Centre announced Saturday will fill the space formerly occupied by Regis Salons, next to Marshall’s.

He’ll have to wait to welcome his first customer until April 12, when the government will allow salons to open at 25 per cent capacity in the Grey-Lockdown zone, where Thunder Bay currently sits.

Commisso is optimistic things will gradually improve from there, as vaccinations roll out to more people in the city.

The family salon will offer cuts, colour, waxing, and more. Commisso expects to initially employ about five part-time and full-time stylists, and could expand to around eight employees.

For Commisso, a stylist who has worked in the industry for years, it’s a dream come true.

“I’ve wanted to be a business owner for the longest time, so this is a good opportunity,” he said.
