It may sound strange but Scott Chisholm thinks there’s a similarity between the Harlem Shake and suicide awareness.

The founder of collateral damage was with students from Lakehead University over the weekend as they created a local version of the online dance craze.

“What I found interesting about it is that it starts with one person and then everybody else comes in and starts dancing. I think it’s very much like the work that we do with the Collateral Damage,” Chilsolm said. “Starting that conversation is really really tough but once you do many join in. I realized how much it’s very similar to what we do and what we want to achieve.”

The dance was part of the Dollar Lifesaver Challenge, a series of events to raise funds and awareness for Collateral Damage and suicide prevention throughout the week.

“It breaks that stigma and stigma is the thing that we need to battle,” Chisholm said.
