THUNDER BAY -- Five new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Thunder Bay.

The district currently has 19 active cases, two more than there were on Wednesday. Four new cases linked to variants of concern have also been discovered, for a total of 94 since the first four cases were announced in early April.

There have now been 3,190 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, including 2,605 in 2021 and 93 in May. A total of 3,108 cases are considered resolved, with 63 deaths.

The city's seven-day, per-100,000 case count dropped to 10.00, the lowest it's been since the second wave began last November.

Of the new cases, three are considered to reside in Thunder Bay and surrounding area and two live in district communities.

Two of the cases are from close contact, one has no known exposure and two others are still under investigation.
