THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reducing its public reporting on COVID-19.

Going forward, the agency will update its dashboard of local COVID-19 data such as new cases and hospitalizations weekly on Thursdays. Data on local vaccination rates will be updated every second Tuesday.

The health unit had been updating its dashboard on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and updating vaccine figures weekly.

A TBDHU spokesperson said the move aligns with the direction taken by the province and other Ontario health units.

It also responds to the removal of pandemic public health measures and changes in provincial testing eligibility and case and contact management, the agency said.

Local indicators including hospitalizations, testing positivity rates, and outbreaks in vulnerable settings have plateaued at relatively low levels after a wave of infections appeared to crest in May.

Lower rates of COVID-19 in the community also prompted the regional hospital to further lower its COVID response level on Monday.
