THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting one new death attributed to COVID-19.

The total number of deaths in which the novel coronavirus played a contributing or underlying role during the pandemic rose to 113 in the health unit’s update on Thursday.

There were 41 people in hospital across the Thunder Bay District testing positive for the virus, including three in ICU, the health unit reported.

In recent reporting, many of those with COVID-19 in Thunder Bay’s regional hospital had tested positive incidentally after being admitted for other reasons, however.

The health unit was tracking COVID-19 outbreaks in nine vulnerable settings as of Thursday, including the Southbridge Roseview and Hogarth Riverview Manor long-term care homes, the Bethammi Nursing Home, the Thunder Bay regional hospital’s 1A unit, the St. Joseph’s Hospital’s 4N/4S and 3S units, and the Wilson Memorial General Hospital (hospital-wide) in Marathon.
