A Thunder Bay man charged with murder will have a preliminary hearing date set in June.

Jeffrey Morris Kakegamic, 32, was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of breach of probation in connection with the death of Martin Fabian Achneepineskum.

Kakegamic appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice Monday and was remanded in custody until June 3 when a preliminary hearing date is expected to be set.

On Dec. 2, 2012, city police responded to a call about a man being attacked within a residence in the 200 block of McIntyre Street around 3:25 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found an injured Achneepineskum, 48, who was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

Police said the two Thunder Bay men knew each other and alcohol was a factor.
