Hostage free of standoff

Police continue to urge the public to avoid the area of Cumberland Street between Camelot Street and Marina Park Drive.

THUNDER BAY — A hostage is now free of a stand-off on the city's north side. 

The Thunder Bay Police Service and OPP continue to respond to an incident on Cumberland Street.

City police officers were dispatched just after 8:30 a.m. on Friday to the 100 block of Cumberland Street. 

A standoff ensued following a weapons incident between police and the suspect.  

The standoff is ongoing. 

An individual who was held hostage with a suspect has exited the location, police said around 3:30 p.m.

Police continue to urge the public to avoid the area of Cumberland Street between Camelot Street and Marina Park Drive.

Road closures are also in place on other streets in the area, including Tupper and Villa streets.
