A Northeastern Ontario man has been fined $2,500 for trespassing to hunt and shooting from a vehicle.

The Mattice man pleaded guilty and was fined $1,500 for shooting from a vehicle and  fined an additional $1,000 for trespassing on private property to hunt.

He is not allowed to hunt in Ontario for a year.

The court heard that on Nov. 12, 2012, Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers set out a deer decoy in the Pass Lake area, about 60 kilometres east of Thunder Bay.

No trespassing signs on the property were visible from the road.

The hunter saw the decoy while driving east on the road. He shot at the decoy three times from his truck across the westbound portion of the roadway.

Justice of the Peace Robert Michels heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on May 1.
