Bruce Hyer has wrapped up his nuclear waste meetings in Northeastern Ontario.

The Independent MP had been touring towns and consulting with communities that have a stake in a proposed nuclear waste repository. The fact-finding tour went as far as Oshawa. Hyer also met with officials in Wawa, one of 17 communities that have moved to the “learn more” process of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s plan to transport and store waste.

Hyer said people have concerns about the location of the site and how waste would be transported. Many hope that the problem can be avoided altogether he said.

The tour will continue in the new year with Hyer meeting with towns in the Northwest that have yet to be consulted.
