Red River Road is about to get a lot more colourful.
For the first time ever, Thunder Bay will host a pride parade on June 15. From Waverly Park to the waterfront, the parade is a key part of Pride Week in the city which kicked off Tuesday morning with a flag raising at city hall.
“We’re really excited to be able to do that,” Thunder Pride co-chair Cynthia Olsen said of a pride tradition that has been celebrated in major cities the world over for more than 40 years.
“Bring out your pride flags, bring out your banners…wear bright colours, dress up and have fun.”
Now in its third year, Thunder Pride is a way for the LGBT to celebrate diversity and inclusivity in the city. And, if pride festivals like those in Toronto are any indication, a way to have a lot of fun.
Olsen said Thunder Pride participation last year doubled from the previous year.
“We know that we’re becoming a big part of Thunder Bay culture in the summer,” she said.
… More to come
