A 53-year-old Thunder Bay woman was rescued from Lake Superior on Thursday afternoon.

Just before 3 p.m. Thunder Bay OPP responded to a call of an overturned kayak in Black Bay. The woman had been out kayaking with a group of people before becoming separated from them.

Later in the afternoon the group found the woman's kayak overturned in the water. Thunder Bay OPP's marine unit, the coast guard and a Hercules aircraft searched the area and located the woman on a small island. When found she was in a hypothermic condition and transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for treatment.
