KENORA - Police in Kenora are reminding the public about what kinds of crimes should be reported online.

On Monday, Kenora OPP issued a news release stating officers responded to 158 calls from Friday, Oct. 2, to Monday, Oct. 5.

OPP say the number of calls police have been receiving isn’t as high as pre-COVID times but considering the time of year officers are still busy.

“A lot of people do not know it even exists and it could save our front line officers time,” Cst. Jason Canfield with the Kenora OPP said, adding it is not uncommon for police to receive up to 200 calls of service this time of the year.

Police encourage individuals to use the online reporting system as an alternative to having an officer attend a scene for a minor incident. The system rolled out in 2014 to allow citizens to report certain crimes. The tool can be accessed through a computer or mobile device at any time.

Some incidents people can report through the online reporting system include theft under $5,000, mischief or damage to property under $5,000, mischief or damage to vehicle under $5,000, theft from vehicle, lost or missing property under $5,000, stolen license plates and driving complaints.
