(KENORA, ON) –Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have charged two male youths after an incident on June 7, 2016.
At approximately 2:00 pm on Tuesday June 7, police were notified that two youths had escaped from a youth custody facility north of Kenora.
The OPP were advised that the youth had left the facility and stolen a vehicle from a local residence, damaging property in the process. Police observed the vehicle shortly after and the suspects failed to stop for police. The suspect vehicle fled the scene.
Around 4:00 pm, the vehicle was located disabled and the youths were arrested nearby without incident.
As a result of this investigation, two 14 year old male youths have been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code:
• Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer s. 249.1(1)
• Escape Lawful Custody s.145(1)(a)
• Theft Under $5000 of a Motor Vehicle s. 334(b)
• Mischief Under $5000 (3 counts each) s 430(4)
They have been held in custody pending a bail hearing June 8, 2016.
