Lakehead School Board offering $5,000 reward for information on threats

THUNDER BAY - The Lakehead Public School Board is reaching out to the public for information on anonymous threats directed at a local high school and is now offering a cash reward for tips that lead to an arrest.

In a social media post issued late Tuesday afternoon, the Lakehead Public School Board said it is offering a cash reward of $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for sending anonymous threats to police directed at Hammarskjold High School.

“Please contact the Thunder Bay Police tip line at 807- 684-5001 to provide any and all information that may be instrumental in assisting the Lakehead Public Schools end these threats,” the post reads.

The Lakehead School Board has closed Hammarskjold six times in 2019 due to anonymous threats received by Thunder Bay Police directed at the north side high school. Three such threats have been made in the last week.

The most recent incident occurred on Tuesday. According to Thunder Bay Police, the threats have involved references to planned shootings and explosives. The threat sent on Tuesday involved explosives planted inside the school.

Police searched the building and the school grounds and did not find any evidence of a threat.
