A robbery of a Mac’s convenience store early Tuesday morning turned violent.

Thunder Bay Police say at about 4 a.m. a man entered a Mac’s store on Syndicate Avenue, walked behind the counter and punched the lone employee in the store.

A female customer then held back the suspect, who was attempting to steal money and assault the employee.

The suspect left and was subsequently arrested after being tailed by a Diamond Taxi cab driver.

A 25-year-old Thunder Bay man is in custody facing charges of robbery and breaching probation. He’ll be in court later on Tuesday.
