THUNDER BAY - A 31-year-old Thunder Bay man whose body was found last weekend in the city was known to his alleged killers police say.

The body of Christopher David Meeseetawageesic was found in the 400-block of Main Street by a passerby on Sunday, Aug. 30 just after 10 a.m.

On Friday, Sept. 4, Thunder Bay police announced the arrest of Kenneth Layton Moonias, 29, of Thunder Bay and Natalie Roseanne Moonias, 31, of Thunder Bay.

Police say both suspects were arrested on Thursday, Sept. 3, in different parts of the city.

“At this point in time, we know all parties were known to each other,” Det.-Sgt. Jeremy Pearson with the Thunder Bay Police Service said. “It’s not believed the two are immediate family.”

Both suspects face a charge of second-degree murder in connection to Meeseetawageesic’s death as well as breach of probation charges. They both appeared in court Friday and were remanded into custody with future court dates.

The homicide is the eighth murder in the city this year.

“I know that our consistent ranking per capita for number one for homicide is disturbing to the community and it is a concern we all share,” Pearson said, adding police continue to work to resolve several cases.

The investigation into Meeseetawageesic’s death remains ongoing as investigators continue to seek more information and process evidence.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
