Man arrested after 21-hour standoff in Dryden area

DRYDEN, Ont. -- A 38-year-old man has been taken into custody after a 21-hour standoff with provincial police north of Dryden.

OPP said officers were executing a warrant at a residence on Henderson Road north of Dryden on Thursday morning when a man barricaded himself in the home with a weapon.

The incident ended Friday morning when the man was arrested by police.

The integrated police response included resources from the OPP's tactical and rescue unit, Northwest emergency response team, K9 unit, provincial liaison team, Northwest region crisis negotiating team, incident commanders and the Northwest region crime unit.

The accused is facing charges of uttering threats, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, failure to comply with recognizance and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He is being held in custody while awaiting a bail hearing.
