Man arrested in Thunder Bay was wanted on assault and weapons charges

THUNDER BAY — A Toronto-area man arrested in Thunder Bay on Saturday was wanted for aggravated assault and numerous weapons offences in Southern Ontario.

Jamel Anthony Evans, 29, of North York was taken into custody after the Thunder Bay Police Emergency Task Unit surrounded a residence in the 100 block of Bethune Street. 

On Monday, OPP in Norfolk County revealed that Evans was wanted on warrants issued in connection with an assault on a woman in the town of Simcoe on June 18, 2022.

He's charged with aggravated assault, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, and several other charges.

Evans was held in custody in Thunder Bay pending transfer to Simcoe for a court appearance at a later date.

Norfolk County OPP detachment commander Insp. Jodi Kays expressed gratitude to the TBPS for its work that led up to the apprehension of the accused.
