THUNDER BAY - A 39-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing several charges relating to child pornography following a search of a north side home.

Early last month, the Thunder Bay Police Service's Cyber Crime Unit became aware of a local internet user allegedly in possession of digital files consistent with child pornography.

An investigation was launched by police and confirmed the digital files were consistent with child pornography, police said.

An address connected with the internet user downloading the digital files was identified and a search warrant was executed on Thursday at a residence near Bay Street and South Water Street.

Several electronic devices were seized during the search and the suspect, Justin John Mach, 39, of Thunder Bay, was arrested.

Mach has been charged with possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography, and distribution of child pornography.

Mach appeared in a Thunder Bay Courtroom on Friday where he was remanded into custody with a future court date.

Mach was previously convicted of possessing child pornography in 2016, and was sentenced to 16 months at that time.
