Mauro backs Pupatello's Ontario Liberal leadership bid

THUNDER BAY -- Bill Mauro is throwing his support behind Ontario Liberal hopeful Sandra Pupatello.

THUNDER BAY -- Bill Mauro is throwing his support behind Ontario Liberal hopeful Sandra Pupatello.

The Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP stated in a news release issued Wednesday afternoon he believes the former Windsor-West MPP is best suited to replace outgoing premier Dalton McGuinty.

“While I value the work and experience the other leadership candidates bring to our party, I believe Sandra’s knowledge and commitment to northern issues are overwhelming reasons why I am supporting her efforts to be the leader of our party,” said Mauro, who served with Pupatello for eight years.

Pupatello was elected as an MPP in 1995 and re-elected in the next three provincial elections.

She has also led the following ministries: Ministry of Women’s Issues, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Serves and Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.

“Having Bill’s support is important because it tells me the change we are looking for is possible. Bill will make sure we listen to the issues that matter to people in the North,” Pupatello said.

Thunder Bay-Superior North MPP Michael Gravelle has not announced support for any candidate at this time.
