More Attawapiskat First Nations evacuees are heading to Thunder Bay.

City officials confirmed Monday afternoon that a group of Stage 1 evacuees will be transferred from Greenstone to the city sometime Monday. Greenstone is hosting nearly 200 of the evacuees, but does not have the hotel capacity to accommodate them all.

While the number of evacuees heading to Thunder Bay has not been confirmed, it is believed to be less than 100 people.

The city’s recreation and culture division is planning recreational activities, including visits the Canada Games Complex, bowling, arts and crafts and gymnasium games.

These Stage 1 evacuees will join the vulnerable residents from the remote and far North First Nation community who were flown into the city Friday night. The evacuees are  escaping the rising water levels and sewage infrastructure failures in the James Bay-area community.

Attawapiskat leaders declared a state of emergency earlier this month.
