Police have closed off a section of Oliver Road following a five-vehicle crash at the corner of Oliver Road and Balmoral Street.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers arrived at the busy intersection just before 10 a.m. Saturday. Two of the vehicles involved received major damage with one car’s front end completely smashed in. The van in front of the car also received heavy damage to the back. Police redirected traffic from Oliver Road from Balmoral Street and Frankwood Avenue.

Det. Const. Rob Miller said two people were sent to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with some injuries. He said there were two children in one of the vehicles but they weren’t hurt.
“As you can see there were five-vehicles involved and nothing happened until the last vehicle hit the van and a chain reaction happened,” Miller said. “As far as we know there are no major injuries at this point. We’re going to close off Oliver Road probably for two hours.”
He added the traffic department has to do a reconstruction of the scene before the vehicles can be moved.
Police confirmed on Sunday that the injuries to one man was believed to be non-life threatening.
