One woman dead following Highway 17 collision

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a motor vehicle collision that left one woman dead Thursday night.

SCHREIBER, Ont. – A Petawawa woman is dead following a two-vehicle collision Thursday night on Highway 17.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to a serious motor vehicle collision Thursday shortly after 7 p.m. on Highway 17 west of Schreiber.

Police say a westbound vehicle collided with an eastbound vehicle just east of Whitesand Road.

The driver of the westbound vehicle Rikki-Leigh Jocelyn Clark, 24, was transported to hospital by ambulance, but succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 17 was closed for 11 hours. OPP re-opened it to one lane around 6 a.m. and both lanes were re-opened at around 10 a.m.

OPP officials would like to remind the public to slow down and drive according to weather conditions.
