OPP respond to numerous animal-vehicle crashes

Area OPP officers responded to a number of vehicle-animal collisions over the past 24 hours on Highway 17 near Schreiber. The first occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday when a westbound pickup truck struck a moose.

The first occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday when a westbound pickup truck struck a moose. The 22-year old male driver wasn't injured. 

Then at 10:30 a.m. Friday, a 53-year old man riding a motorcycle also hit a moose.  The collision caused him to lose control of the bike and go into the ditch. 

He's been taken to hospital in Terrace Bay. 

Finally, just before noon Friday, an eastbound vehicle struck a bear on the highway. 

The 47-year old female driver escaped injury. 

The OPP reminds all drivers to be on the lookout for wildlife in the area.
