Passenger sustained serious injuries, crash under SIU investigation

THUNDER BAY — One person was hospitalized with serious injuries following a collision Monday and the incident is now under investigation by the province's police watchdog.

The crash occurred after a Thunder Bay Police Service officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a white truck at approximately 10 a.m., according to a statement from the Special Investigations Unit.

The driver of the truck did not stop and collided with an SUV shortly afterwards, in the area of May and Finlayson streets, according to the SIU.
 
The driver of the truck then allegedly fled police on foot.

A passenger from the truck, a 54-year-old man, was transported to hospital and was diagnosed with serious injuries, said the SIU statement.
