THUNDER BAY — City police are continuing to investigate the Tuesday death of a woman as a homicide, and have expanded an area of potential interest.

Thunder Bay police began investigating Tuesday after the body of a woman was found in a home in the 200 block of Mary Street East on the city's south side.

In an update Wednesday, Thunder Bay Police Service Det.-Insp. Jeremy Pearson said investigators are renewing a call for public assistance, asking anyone who witnessed anything unusual, or had surveillance or dash camera in the area of Arthur and Vickers streets between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday morning to come forward.

"I'm a big believer in [people] trusting their instincts," Pearson said. "If there's anything that caught the interest or caught the eye, or seemed unusual for lack of a better term, to a member of the public, we're asking that they share that information with us. There's always the chance it may be nothing, but as I always say, it may be something."

"There are individuals in the community who may know something and not even realize they know something, not even realize that they something that was of importance."

Pearson said the killing is not believed to be a random act, and there is not expected to be a threat to the public.

"At this time, our investigation indicates no connection to the illicit drug trade in the city," Pearson said, adding that investigators remain open to every possibility.

Pearson said it's suspected that a weapon was involved, but it was not a firearm-related death.

Police have not provided any further information about the victim. Pearson said investigators' conversations with the next of kin and family are ongoing.

A post-mortem exam is scheduled to take place Thursday in Toronto, Pearson added.
