More than 240 phone calls have been made to city police from an Andras Court apartment complex over the last year.
That’s the same location where a stabbing spree occurred nearly two weeks ago.
District Social Service Board Chair Ian Angus said having police patrol the premise is one option to help reduce incidents.
“We’ve also worked closely in the past with Thunder Bay Police Services,” he said. “We bring in, on a contract basis, police officers to patrol certain buildings or certain complexes and it has proven very successful in reducing incidents of illegal activity.”
On Oct. 8, Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to an incident where two people were stabbed and another injured at the Andras Court apartments. It was reported that a 77-year-old woman had to be treated for injuries following an altercation.
Police later arrested 29-year-old Eli John in connection with that incident.
Angus added that security at all buildings needs to be looked at.
“We are taking a very hard look at our security in all of our buildings,” he said. “The security of our tenants is paramount.”
