Police seek security camera video in Andras Court homicide case

Police are appealing for information and footage from the public as they investigate the death of an Ajax man from stab wounds on Saturday.

THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay police say the victim of an assault in a Cumberland Street apartment building on Saturday suffered injuries consistent with being stabbed by an edged weapon.

A 28-year-old man from Ajax, Ontario died in hospital after being found with serious wounds in a unit at Andras Court.

He was the 11th homicide victim in Thunder Bay so far this year.

Police have been in touch with the man's family but are not releasing his name at this point.

Inspector Jeremy Pearson appealed Tuesday to residents and business owners in the Red River Road/Algoma Street/Pearl Street area who may have security camera video to come forward.

"Specifically, we're looking at the period between midnight and 2 a.m. on Saturday the 24th," Pearson said.

Although there have been no arrests so far, he said investigators have identified a number of witnesses as well as persons of interest they wish to speak with "to determine their involvement in this occurrence."

He declined to comment on a possible motive or the exact relationship between the parties involved, other than to say there is a history of "interactions" between them.

"We do not believe at this time that this was a random occurrence," Pearson said.

Detectives are anxious to hear from any community member who may have any insights or information they believe may be pertinent to the investigation.

"I always say there is no information that's too small or insignificant," Pearson said. "It's all helpful."

Police may be contacted at (807) 684-1200, or tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com.
