Police seize contraband tobacco

A 61-year-old man faces three charges related to illegal cigarettes.

NIPGION -- Schreiber OPP have charged a 61-year-old man with several charges related to illegal cigarettes.

Police said they made a traffic stop just before noon Thursday on Highway 17.

An investigation revealed the man was transporting a quantity of unmarked cigarettes.

The police searched the vehicle revealing about 100,000 illegal cigarettes, with an estimated street value was $20,000.

As a result of the investigation, Thomas Tresoor of Wanipigow, Manitoba has been charged with the following offences:

1.  Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco contrary to Section 121.1 of the Criminal Code.
2.  Possess unmarked cigarettes for sale contrary to Section 29(1) of the Tobacco Tax Act.
3. Possess unmarked cigarettes contrary to Section 29(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act.
