Pre-trial set for accused in double homicide

THUNDER BAY - Two people accused of second degree murder in connection to a double homicide earlier this summer will appear in court for a pre-trial hearing later this month.

Kailee Loon, 19, and Garnet Loon, 41, appeared via video in an Ontario Courtroom Tuesday afternoon. The two will remain in custody until appearing in person in court on Oct. 30 for a pre-trial hearing.

Police were called to a Carl Avenue home on July 1 where two bodies were discovered. According to police, the victims, 50-year-old Robert Gray and 22-year-old Kory Campbell, were known to the accused.

Kailee Loon and Garnet Loon were arrested in Sioux Lookout on July 4 and are facing two counts of second degree murder and attempted murder. Garnet Loon is also facing an additional charge of forcible confinement.

Garnet Loon was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the 2007 death of 18-year-old Jordan Achneepineskum.
