Thunder Bay - Rainy River MP John Rafferty is getting support from the other opposition parties in Ottawa for his bill to change Canada's laws regarding pension protection.
Rafferty's Bill C-501 would put unsecured pensions at the front of the line of creditors when companies such as AbitibiBowater enter restructuring or bankruptcy proceedings. But while the Liberals and the Bloc are supporting his NDP bill, the Conservatives are warning against it.
Rafferty's bill will be back up for a second hour of debate sometime over the next two weeks. After that, the bill will head to the federal industry committee where the bill will be studied further.
