The rainbow is a symbol of hope.
And there was a lot of hope on Red River Road Saturday afternoon as more than 200 people took part in the first ever Thunder Pride parade. Flags, cars and even umbrellas sported the rainbow theme, which made organizers well up with pride.
“It almost brought tears to my eyes to see the amount of people,” Thunder Pride chair Cynthia Olsen said.
People young and old, politicians, businesses and unions marched in the parade, which ended up at Marina Park for a festival. It just goes to show that they city is becoming more inclusive and showing respect parade organizer Scott Gale said.
“It’s just great to see people coming out and supporting an affirming inclusive community and it’s just wonderful to be a part of it,” he said. “Being able to be proud of who we are.”
“And we can all feel safe to march down this street today,” Olsen said.
