Details are now being made public about a spill near the Kaministiquia River at the Resolute Pulp and Paper Mill this week.
A problem with the plant’s black liquor process caused some by-product foam to be released into the river. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment insists there was no impact on fish habitat or anyone living downstream.
The problem was spotted on Monday and plant officials used sawdust at the effluent pipe to control the foam getting into the river.
A spokesperson for Resolute says the Kraft mill was shut down on Tuesday and Wednesday as a precaution while the problem was addressed.
As of Thursday, the mill is back up and running.
Officials with the MOE say no black liquor entered the river, only a small amount of foam.
Because of the high water levels on the river, the foam was quickly flushed into Lake Superior.
The company and the ministry say they're continuing to monitor the situation.
