For hundreds of local bikers Saturday morning started with a roar.

The 13th annual Ride for Dad was the best one yet according to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre foundation’s Amy Silvaggio. And by the look and sound of more than 330 bikers revving their engines together at the Victoria Inn, she might be right. The event had to be moved this year from the Keg to accommodate all of the bikes.

“We’ve kind of outgrown our previous location,” she said.

After the parade of bikes, participants scattered throughout the Thunder Bay area from South Gilles and beyond on the event’s annual poker run. A new route meant that even for those who have ridden in the event before, they wouldn’t know what to expect.

“It is popular and we want people to keep coming back,” Silvaggio said. “Adding a couple of extra elements that keep them guessing or make it a little bit different but still the same great event.”

All proceeds go towards prostate cancer and stay in Northwestern Ontario through the Northern Cancer Fund, which is one of the reasons the motorcycle community keeps coming back. Plus it’s a chance to show off their pride and joy.

“The bikers shine them up they get them all washed up and ready to go and all the spectators come out to watch the roar as well. It’s really incredible,” SIlvaggio said.
