THUNDER BAY – With students heading back to school this week, the city has started closing its summer recreational services.

Art Widnall and Heath pools are now closed for the season as well as Sandy Beach at Chippewa Park and Boulevard Lake’s main beach.

The amusement rides at Chippewa Park and Centennial Park’s Muskeg Express have also taken their last runs this year.

The Franklin Park and North End splash pads will close on Wednesday, Sept. 3, but families have some more time to enjoy the splash pads at County Park, Northwood Playfield and Marina Park with the last day of operations for all three set for Sunday, Sept. 14.

Volunteer Pool is now closed for three weeks for scheduled maintenance and is set to reopen on Sept. 24.

Churchill Pool and the Canada Games Complex remain open. Their hours of operation and other information can be found on the city's website.

City officials also encourage members of the public to use caution if swiming at unsupervised beaches.
