A Thunder Bay high school principal is in legal trouble following the alleged smuggling of several replica firearms at the Pigeon River border this past summer.

The incident was first reported on in late July.  Eight airsoft replica firearms and four replica magazines were discovered in a vehicle on June 16 and confiscated.

Canada Border officials would not disclose the suspect's identity at that time, but it's now been confirmed the man charged is 51-year-old Rowan Seymour, the principal of Churchill High School.

Seymour is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 12. He faces nine counts related to smuggling prohibited items and failing to report goods.

Lakehead School Board director Catherine Siemieniuk would not comment on the case or Seymour's current employment status with the board.

She did, however, confirm that an acting principal is now in place at Churchill.
