THUNDER BAY – A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared in a second area of the Hogarth Riverview Manor long-term care home.

An outbreak was declared at the Birch/Spruce Grove resident home area on Friday evening by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit after a single staff member tested positive, as required under provincial guidelines.

The news comes just a day after another outbreak was declared at the Rose and Tulip resident home area of Hogarth Riverview Manor, also prompted by a single staff member testing positive.

The Lillie Street home, operated by St. Joseph’s Care Group, has now seen five outbreaks resolved without spreading beyond one positive staff member since May of 2020.

The health unit has initiated a thorough assessment of the situation, it said Friday, including on-site inspections and enhanced surveillance and testing.
