THUNDER BAY -- An update on security cameras being installed along Thunder Bay's waterways will go before city council Monday night.
Council will receive an update on installing security cameras along dangerous waterways.
The city formed a technical working group on security cameras in response to the Seven Youth Inquest findings and requests from the public.
The group says it's ready to start looking at camera vendors and has identified several possible areas for cameras, including McVicar Creek, Kam River Heritage Park, and the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway.
Council will also hear a request from the Ministry of Transportation on a preferred detour due to construction work scheduled on Highway 61 next summer.
The MTO plans to rehabilitate four bridges along Highway 61 between Broadway Avenue and the Thunder Bay International Airport.
Because of the construction, part of the highway will need to be closed, and the MTO is now asking the city to approve its preferred detour route.
City staff recommends council approve a detour as along Broadway and Neebing Avenue, between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
