Police have concluded that both speed and alcohol were major contributing factors in a recent fatal crash.
The mishap occurred Feb. 20 at the intersection of John Street and Mapleward Roads when a minivan crashed into the rear of a slow-moving, front-end loader.
Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say the 21-year-old driver of the minivan died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Police say witness interviews, forensic evidence and information from the coroner's office led them to their conclusion.
The second driver has been ticketed for not having a slow-moving vehicle sign on the back of the loader. But police say such a sign would not have altered the outcome of the incident.
