Tom Holmquist can go camping in style this summer.

The Thunder Bay man is the winner of this year’s Spring into Summer trailer draw in support of St. John Ambulance.

While he wasn’t in attendance when the winning ticket was drawn from the drum, Holmquist will drive away with the grand prize of a 32-foot Jayco Jay Flight Travel Trailer worth more than $38,000.

All 7,650 tickets had sold by noon on Wednesday, just three hours before the winners were drawn.

“That was pretty exciting,” said Stephanie Bateman, fund development and marketing coordinator for St. John Ambulance.

“Altogether we managed to raise more than $43,000.”

The money raised will go towards the organization’s community service programs like their car seat inspection program, their school education programs and their medical first response division.

“They provide first aid coverage at all sorts of community events like Canada Day and the Teddy Bears Picnic,” said Bateman.

The money also covers the therapy dog program, which has therapy dog teams go into community care facilities like the hospital and visit long-term care patients.

Bateman said they were able to sell more tickets this year and raised an extra $3,000.

“It’s a really popular campaign and we really enjoy getting out there in the community and talk to people and reach out to people about all of our services, our programs,” she said.

Chris Clark won the second-place prize, which was two kayaks and paddles. The third place ticket belonged to Linda Mapledoram and she won a trip for two from WestJet.
