Stand-off in Westfort ends, man arrested Friday afternoon

Thunder Bay Police were rushed into action this afternoon, as a potential armed stand-off caused a large portion of Westfort to be blocked off.

Thunder Bay Police were rushed into action this afternoon, as a potential armed stand-off caused a large portion of Westfort to be blocked off.

 Police officers blocked off an area on Yonge, Heath and James Street between Francis and Mary streets just before 4 p.m.. 

 Members of the emergency task unit were called in after reports came in about a man in distress who may have had a weapon. 

“We received some information from a family member,” said Thunder Bay Police Service spokesperson Julie Tilbury.  

The emergency task force unit officers entered the house on Yonge Street at about 5:15 p.m, and a 37-year-old man surrendered peacefully.  Firearms were found in the home.. No charges have been laid.
