THUNDER BAY – Tbaytel will give the city an extra $1.175 million dollars in 2017.

The municipally owned utility on Tuesday announced in addition to the $17.35-million fixed levy it pays the city each year, it will provide a special dividend contribution of $1 million this year, as well as a $175,000 performance dividend.

“Year over year, Tbaytel’s financial results demonstrate the company’s positive growth and success at providing high quality products and services with a level of customer service that far exceeds that of our major competitors,” said the utility’s municipal service board chair Jack Jamieson in a release issued by the company.

“2016 was certainly no exception and if our positive growth is any indication of Tbaytel’s future direction then the outlook is very promising.”

Tbaytel, which employs 422 people, also announced it had given $550,000 to 174 organizations last year in the communities it serves.
