Thunder Bay District Humane Society, #40in40 Update

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Humane Society has far exceeded expectations for their #40in40 cat adoption campaign.

“This is amazing news, and we couldn't have done it without the support of our community! Thank you to everyone who has opened their home up to our feline friends, donated to us, shared our posts, and have sent us their kind words. We are so grateful for all of you!” TBDHS said in a post on their Facebook page

The campaign, which began on Aug. 13 set out to have 40 cats adopted in 40 days, the organization nearly doubled this goal with 72 cats adopted out to families in 18 days.

"The idea behind the #40in40 campaign was to encourage adoptions by setting measurable targets we knew would have a big impact for the many cats and kittens in our care, who were/are patiently waiting for their forever families," said executive director Shawna Beaulieu.

"When the campaign launched we were at capacity and had a waiting list for transfers and owner surrenders. Together our Team came up with the idea of#40in40 and it has been a huge success! We hit our 40 cat adoptions goal in only nine days! We are currently at day 18 of the campaign and at 72 adoptions, all thanks to the amazing folks in our community willing to open up their homes and hearts to a cat(s) in need."

A normal adoption fee for an adult cat is $150, for a kitten (Under six months) the fee is $250 and for a senior cat (Over seven years) $50.

"Although we have had tremendous support and success with the campaign, we still have many cats and kittens waiting for a family they can finally call their own. We are expecting 26 cat and kittens to come into our care this week, in addition to the 23 (and counting) who are currently available for adoption," Beaulieu said.
