VIDEO: Two small dogs bark black bear off camp property

Buster (a yorkie terrier), and Gunner (a maltese), successfully fended off an unwanted guest with their barking.

THUNDER BAY - Dog owners tend to be proud of their pooches when they do things like play fetch, roll over, or shake a paw.

Dana Gleeson and Jim Harper are proud for a different reason.

Two of the couple’s four dogs barked a black bear off of their camp property on Sunday evening.

“We were just watching a movie and I started to see some movement,” Gleeson said. “Before I knew it the bear was right at the window.”

Gleeson said she wasn’t fearful when she first saw the bear, and once the dogs noticed she got her phone out to record the video.

“Once they picked up on it they were pretty loud,” Gleeson said. “It was amazing to watch.”

The dogs, Buster and Gunner, are generally small in size. Their high-pitched bark, however, was all it took to shoo the bear away.

Gleeson, who has been at the camp since she was born, says she has never seen a bear in 53 years at the camp.

The couple’s camp is located in Upper Shebandowan at Rossmere Bay.
