THUNDER BAY - A 63-year-old Ware Township man charged with attempted murder stemming from a Sept. 9 incident which left another man with serious injuries was granted bail on Monday.

Douglas Witol appeared in court on Monday, Oct. 19, and was released on $3,000 bail with a non-residential surety.

The accused was arrested following an incident in Ware Township on Luakka Lane last month. Ontario Provincial Police were called to the area after receiving reports someone had been run over by a vehicle. Officers located an unresponsive man who was transported to hospital and later flown to Winnipeg for treatment of his serious injuries.

Witol’s bail conditions will require him to have no contact with the alleged victim and a witness. He also cannot possess any weapons or have care or control of any motor vehicle.

An OPP spokesperson confirmed the accused and victim were known to each other.

Witol is expected to appear in court again in November.
