June 7, 2016 – Work on a north-side watermain may cause discoloured water for some residents on Tuesday, June 7.

The water supply to the watermain at the Chamberlain Pumping Station will be shut down in order for new watermains to be connected to existing ones. When the work is complete, turning the water supply to the station back on may result in discoloured water in this part of the system.

Residents in the Chamberlain Street, Shuniah Street, and Margaret Street areas may notice discoloured water coming from their taps late this afternoon and continuing overnight. Residents are advised to follow the steps below if they notice their water is discoloured.

1. Do not open any HOT water taps.
2. Open only one COLD water tap (a tap that does not have a water filter system attached to it) and allow the water to flow at a medium flow until the water runs clear.
3. Once the single COLD water tap is running clear, open all other taps including HOT water taps and flush until all water runs clear.

Running cold water taps for five minutes should clear any discoloured water. If discolouration returns, please repeat steps 1 to 3.

If the water does not clear after following the procedure above, residents can contact Infrastructure & Operations Dispatch at 625-2195.
