TORONTO Harte Gold Corp. says it has received all necessary operating permits from the Ontario government to start commercial production at its Sugar Zone mine, 40 kilometres northeast of White River.

In a news release, the company said it is starting full-scale operations, and expects the mine to operate for at least 12 years.

Harte Gold expects the mine will employ close to 200 people.

"This is great news for the people of White River and Northern Ontario," said Premier Doug Ford. "As Ontario's first high-grade gold mine in over 10 years, this project proves that Ontario's North is open for business."

Harte's statement said that full commissioning of its mill complex is nearing completion, and that underground development work "continues to exceed targeted rates."

The mine site is 80 kilometres east of the Hemlo gold camp.
