THUNDER BAY - A woman charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 31-year-old Thunder Bay man will make her next court appearance early next month.

Jessie Chapais, 23, appeared via video Tuesday in a Thunder Bay court where the case was remanded to Nov. 7.

George Joseph, who is representing Chapais, said through a friend of the court that he is still waiting to receive disclosure from police on the matter, which he originally requested in July.

Chapais was arrested on July 8, 2017 along with 43-year-old Emma Masakayash. Both were charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 31-year-old Kevin Roundhead.

Roundhead had been found unresponsive under the Cumberland Street bridge over McVicar Creek on July 4. Witnesses reported that Roundhead’s face was bloody and swollen. He was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre where he was pronounced dead.

In connection with the same case, on July 5, 22-year-old Skylar Masakeyash was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Chapais and Masakeyash remain in custody, while Masakayash is expected to make her next court appearance on Wednesday, Oct. 25 for a bail review.
