THUNDER BAY – A woman accused of robbing a convenience store and pointing a replica handgun at a store clerk has been granted bail.
Casie Mathewson, 24, was arrested by Thunder Bay police following an alleged armed robbery at a Circle K on Waterloo Street on July 21.
Police allege the accused entered the store with a firearm, pointed it at the clerk and demanded money.
Following the incident, police released to the public video footage of the suspect and were able to locate and arrest the accused on Aug. 5.
Her charges include one count of robbery with a firearm, wearing a face mask to commit an indictable offence and pointing a firearm.
On Friday, Aug. 14, a bail hearing was held for Mathewson where she was granted release from custody by Justice of the Peace Jennifer A. Neill.
Mathewson will be released to two sureties. Upon her release, she must abide by several strict conditions including remaining under house arrest at all times unless she is in the direct company of her sureties, she must stay away from drugs, alcohol and weapons. She will also be obligated to comply with compliance checks by Thunder Bay police and she is also to have no contact with the victim and three witnesses.
She is also not to attend any Circle K store in the city. Both sureties have also promised to pay a total of $3,000 in the event Mathewson breaches any of her release conditions.
Mathewson will appear in court next in October.
