THUNDER BAY – A female youth has been charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer after an incident on Pacific Avenue.

In a release, police say police were dispatched to the 500 block of the Intercity-area neighbourhood at about 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, where they encountered a pair of intoxicated youths. One was deemed safe and returned home to a parent, but the other was in a state of distress and said she feared for her well-being, according to police.

She was taken to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, where she became combative and allegedly assaulted an officer.

Police regained control of the situation, but were asked by hospital staff to remove the youth from the area.

Shortly afterward the youth became combative again and allegedly struck another officer.

The suspect cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
